How to Choose a Web Host

A practical hosting checklist based on your website, technical needs and long-term cost.

Editorial note: Hosting products and promotions change. We use provider documentation for changing product facts and recommend checking live checkout terms before purchasing.

Start with the website, not the hosting brand.

1. Define the workload

Is it a blog, brochure site, store, membership site or application? Estimate how many sites you will run and whether WordPress is required.

2. Decide how much management you want

Managed hosting reduces routine server work. VPS and self-managed products can provide more control but demand more technical responsibility.

3. Compare resources

Look at storage, traffic guidance, CPU/RAM where disclosed, backups, CDN, staging, migration and security features.

4. Check support

Consider available channels and whether the support scope matches your technical comfort.

5. Calculate long-term cost

Promotional rates expire. Check renewal pricing and optional add-ons.

6. Leave room to grow

A clean upgrade path is more valuable than overbuying capacity today.
