What Is WordPress Hosting?

Learn what WordPress hosting adds and when a managed WordPress plan is useful.

Editorial note: Hosting products and promotions change. We use provider documentation for changing product facts and recommend checking live checkout terms before purchasing.

WordPress hosting is hosting configured and packaged around the WordPress content-management system. The server still performs normal hosting work, but the provider may add WordPress installation, updates, caching, staging, security and specialized support.

Do you need it?

WordPress does not require a product literally named “WordPress hosting.” It needs a compatible server environment. A WordPress-specific plan is mainly about convenience and optimization.

Managed vs self-managed

Managed plans handle more routine platform work. Self-managed VPS hosting gives greater control but requires more administration.
